Christ is Risen! Holy Family Church Omzoor Celebrates the Glorious Easter Vigil.
The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, gathered in great numbers to celebrate the Easter Vigil, the most significant and holiest night in the Catholic Church. Known as the “Mother of all Vigils,” the liturgy began in darkness, symbolizing the world before the Resurrection, until the new fire was lit and blessed. From this flame, the Paschal Candle was ignited, representing the Light of Christ breaking through the darkness of sin and death. The community then moved into the church for the solemn Easter Proclamation (Exsultet), followed by a series of scriptural readings and psalms that traced the history of salvation.
The Eucharistic celebration was led by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza (Resident Priest), with Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest) as the co-celebrant. In his homily, Fr. Victor highlighted the five essential elements of the Easter Vigil that define our faith. He explained the significance of the new fire and light, the joy of the Easter Proclamation, and the importance of the blessing of Holy Water, noting that our journey as Catholics begins with the water of Baptism. He concluded by emphasizing the Holy Eucharist, where the faithful proclaim the central mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again. Fr. Victor remarked that the night’s readings provide undeniable proof of the Resurrection and prayed that this Easter season would be a blessed and fruitful time for all.
A significant highlight of the liturgy was the blessing of the baptismal water. As the water was made holy, the parishioners renewed their baptismal promises, symbolically dying to their old selves and rising to new life in Christ. The joyful atmosphere of the Mass was further enhanced by the spirited singing of the “Alleluia,” which had been silent throughout the season of Lent.
Before the conclusion of the Mass, a special milestone for the parish was marked with the official inauguration of the renewed church website. Developed and updated by the Media Commission, the website was formally launched by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. William Menezes. This digital renewal serves as a new platform for the community to stay connected and informed. The Easter Vigil concluded on a note of immense joy and triumph, as the faithful of Omzoor departed to share the good news of the Risen Lord with the world.

The Shadow of the Cross: Solemn Good Friday Observance at Holy Family Church, Omzoor
The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, gathered in solemn silence and prayerful reflection to observe Good Friday, commemorating the passion and death of Jesus Christ. The day began with a powerful and moving enactment of the Way of the Cross by ICYM and YCS members, which allowed the faithful to vividly recall the journey to Calvary and the profound events that unfolded on that historic Friday.
The liturgical service was led by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest), and co-celebrant Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza (Resident Priest). In his deeply moving homily, Rev. Fr. William Menezes reflected on the silence that defines this day, describing the death of Jesus as a wound to the Holy Catholic Church. He explained that we call this day “Good” because it reveals God’s infinite love for humanity—a love so great that He surrendered His own life to grant His people freedom from sin. Fr. William emphasized that the Cross is the ultimate identity and permanent signature of Christianity; however, he reminded the congregation that without Jesus, the Cross holds no value. It is the sacrifice of Christ that transforms the Cross into our most sacred symbol of hope.
The service reached a poignant peak with the descent from the Cross. Following the ancient tradition of the Church, two individuals representing Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus reverently brought down the body of Jesus. This was followed by a solemn funeral procession through the parish grounds. The clergy, altar servers, and the faithful—carrying the statue of the Sorrowful Mother Mary and the body of Jesus placed in a cradle—moved in a sea of candlelight. The flickering flames in the hands of the parishioners symbolized a community united in faith and grief, keeping watch over their Savior.
Following the procession, a heart-touching sermon was delivered offering messages of condolence to the Sorrowful Mother. The reflection also touched upon the “Sermon of the Towel,” recalling how the image of Jesus’ face was imprinted during His passion. The preacher urged the faithful to lead lives of virtue, noting that our daily behavior and choices are the greatest ways we can offer consolation to Mother Mary. The Good Friday service concluded in an atmosphere of profound devotion and silence, as the parishioners of Omzoor departed with a renewed sense of gratitude for the sacrifice made on the Cross.

Holy Family Church Omzoor Commemorates the Lord’s Supper with Solemnity and Love.

The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, gathered in a spirit of profound reverence to observe Maundy Thursday, marking the commencement of the Paschal Triduum. The evening’s liturgy was a solemn journey into the upper room, where the community commemorated the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood. The Mass was presided over by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza (Resident Priest), while Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest) joined as the co-celebrant, leading the faithful in this significant milestone of the liturgical year.

During the homily, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza offered a deep reflection on the mysteries of the Last Supper, explaining how Jesus established the Eucharistic celebration and the sacrament of Holy Orders on this night. He movingly noted the connection between the two days of the Passion, stating that when Jesus broke the bread on Maundy Thursday, He was prefiguring the sacrifice of Himself on the Cross on Good Friday. Fr. Victor called upon the congregation to focus on three vital pillars of Christian life: to actively participate in and celebrate the Holy Mass, to offer special respect and prayerful support to their priests, and to extend their hands in service and their hearts in love to one another, fulfilling Christ’s new commandment of charity.

Following the Word of God, the liturgy moved into a powerful visual demonstration of humility through the ritual of the Mandatum. To recall the poignant moment when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza, knelt to wash the feet of twelve lay people representing the parish community. This act served as a living testament to the spirit of servitude that Christ expects from His followers, bridging the gap between the altar and the everyday lives of the faithful. The ceremony was conducted with great solemnity, deeply touching the hearts of those present.

As the Eucharistic celebration concluded, the atmosphere shifted into one of quiet vigil. A solemn adoration was conducted, during which the Blessed Sacrament was carried in procession to the Altar of Repose. This transition symbolized Jesus’ entry into the Garden of Gethsemane, and the parishioners remained in the church for a period of silent prayer and watchfulness. In the stillness of the night, the community joined together in spiritual solidarity, keeping watch with the Lord and preparing their souls for the upcoming observance of Good Friday.

From Hosanna to the Cross: Palm Sunday Observed with Solemnity at Omzoor

The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, marked the commencement of Holy Week with the traditional observance of Palm Sunday on March 29, 2026. The liturgy, which commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, was celebrated with deep devotion and active participation from the faithful.

The ceremony began at the church grounds, where a large gathering of parishioners assembled. Rev. Fr. William Menezes, the Parish Priest and main celebrant, led the introductory rites and blessed the palm fronds. Following the distribution of the palms, a solemn prayer was conducted.

The congregation then proceeded in a prayerful procession toward the church, waving palms and singing hymns of praise, re-enacting the biblical welcome of Christ into the holy city.

The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. William Menezes and Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza, the Resident Priest.

In his insightful sermon, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza highlighted the dual significance of the day, noting that Palm Sunday serves as a bridge between the Procession (triumph) and the Passion (suffering). He reflected on the human tendency to fluctuate between appreciation and contempt, reminding the faithful that the same crowds who cheered “Hosanna” soon after called for the Crucifixion.

The liturgy concluded with a sense of profound faithfulness. The parishioners of Omzoor departed with blessed palms, prepared to enter into the solemnity of the Paschal Triduum with a renewed spirit of sacrifice and prayer.
