Bread of Life: Eight Young Souls Welcome Jesus at Holy Family Church, Omzoor

On the morning of May 3, 2026, Holy Family Church in Omzoor celebrated a significant spiritual milestone as eight children received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion during a solemn 8:00 AM Mass. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. William Menezes, who was accompanied by Fr. Victor Dsouza (Resident Priest), Fr. Felix Moras, Fr. Charles Pereira and Fr. Felix Pinto as co-celebrants. The children themselves took a central role in the day’s proceedings, leading the liturgy with great devotion and enthusiasm, while the Children’s Choir provided a heavenly atmosphere through their hymns of praise. The congregation, comprised of family members, well-wishers, and parishioners, joined in collective prayer, creating a powerful sense of community support for these young souls as they prepared to welcome Jesus into their hearts for the first time.

The spiritual depth of the occasion was highlighted by an inspiring sermon delivered by Fr. Victor Dsouza. Drawing from the Gospel of John, he emphasized Jesus’ words, “I am the way, the truth, and the life,” reminding the children that true strength now resides within them through the Eucharist. Fr. Victor challenged the communicants to look beyond their outward appearance, noting that while they looked beautiful in their white attire, their inner spiritual purity was what truly mattered. He urged them to “try to be the saint in your life,” encouraging them to let the Bread of Life be the foundation for a fruitful and virtuous journey, rendering them spiritually resilient against the challenges of the world.

The atmosphere reached a peak of reverence as the children, with visible holiness, received the Eucharist for the first time. Following the communion rite, the significance of the day was further marked by a special presentation; Fr. William Menezes and the co-celebrants gifted each of the eight children a Holy Rosary and a Scapular. These sacred sacramental served as both a protection and a reminder of their lifelong commitment to Christ and the Blessed Mother. As the Mass concluded, the joy was palpable, leaving the Omzoor parish community inspired by the sight of their youth taking this bold, grace-filled step in their Catholic faith.
