Holy Family Church, Omzoor Celebrates Elders Day

The Elders Day was celebrated on July 28, 2024, at Holy Family Church, Omzoor, organized by the Parish Pastoral Council. This special day is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the senior citizens of the parish. The celebration began with the Holy Eucharist, officiated by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. William Menezes, followed by a formal program.

The formal program commenced after the mass, with Rev. Fr. William Menezes presiding over the event. In his address, he emphasized the significance of the occasion, expressed joy over the strong connections between the elders and the younger generation, and praised their role in fostering family unity and peaceful living. Mr. Arthur Dsouza, Vice-President of the Parish Pastoral Council, addressed the elders and extended his best wishes.

Souvenirs were distributed by Rev. Fr. William Menezes as a gesture of appreciation. Mrs. Dafny Lewis, the Secretary of the Parish Council, was present and assisted the guests, while Mr. Elroy Saldanha, the Church Parish Commissions Coordinator, served as the event's host. Approximately 45 elders aged 65 and above attended the celebration.

PAVSA FESTH A rainy season games event was organized by ICYM Omzoor on 14th of July, 3.30 pm onwards for all the parishioners of Omzoor at the Church ground. God’s presence was invoked through a prayer song led by ICYM members. Parish Priest Fr. William Menezes, Vice President of Parish Pastoral Commission Mr. Arthur Dsouza, Secretary of Parish Pastoral Commission Mrs. Daffny Lewis, Br. Denzil Rodrigues, Coordinator of all Ayogs and Animator Elroy Saldanha and ICYM Omzoor Unit President Hancil Rodrigues inaugurated the event. President Hancil Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Fr. William Menezes gave the presidential speech. ICYM Mangalore Diocese President Winston Dsouza, Vice President Nihan Sequeira, Joint Secretary Joyston Dsouza, Bantwal Deanary President Arrol Jackson Sequeira, Treasurer Renita Maria Cardoza and Red Drop Secretary Roshan Sequeira were present for the event. Ten Games were organized for the parishioners of all age groups. ICYM Animator Elroy Saldanha conducted the games. More than 150 parishioners actively participated in the event. Winners were awarded with cash prizes. Secretary Ms Diyola Dsouza proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Tenisha Pinto compered the event. The event concluded at 7.00 pm.

Farewell to the Sisters

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, following the 4:30 pm evening mass, we gathered for a heartfelt farewell ceremony to honor our beloved Sr. Cynthia Saldanha and Sr. Pramila dsouza

The ceremony commenced with an introduction by Mr. Arthur D'Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council, who shared warm words of gratitude and best wishes for the sisters' future endeavors.

Sr. Cynthia has served as the Superior at St. Borromeo Convent for the past six years, beginning her tenure in 2018. Sr. Pramila has been a dedicated member of St. Charles Borromeo Convent and also played a significant role as the Headmistress at St. Joseph's Kannada Medium School, Meramajal.

The Parish Pastoral Council, along with the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. William Menezes, expressed their appreciation by facilitating the sisters. Rev. Fr. William Menezes presented Sr. Cynthia and Sr. Pramila with shawls, while Vice President Mr. Arthur D'Souza and the Secretary Mrs. Dafney Lewis, offered them a special present. Mr. Elroy Saldanha, co-ordinator of  church commissions ,presented a sapling as a symbol of growth and new beginnings.

The ceremony concluded with a group photograph and a heartfelt hymn, leaving everyone with cherished memories of the sisters' invaluable contributions to our community.

Environment commission in collaboration with catholic sabha unit of the parish organised Vrakshavandhan a diocese initiative programme to celebrate the international environment day. To inaugurate this programme a symbolic planting of the sapling was done by the parish priest Fr William Menezes after the holy eucharistic celebration Accompanied by vice president Mr Arther Dsouza , Secretary Mrs Dafney Lewis, Ayog commission Co-Ordinator Mr Elroy Saldanha and Catholic Sabha president Mr Vinith Lasrado. About 400 saplings wer distributed to all the parishnoers with the message that every family should plant a sapling and contribute towards saving the mother earth. Hence the motto one plant per family could be achieved.

Welcome to the New Parish Priest - Fr William Menezes

Holy Family Church,Omzoor gives a warm welcome to it's New Parish Priest. All the parishioners were all set to accord a warm welcome to its new Parish Priest Rev.Fr.William Menezes. At 4.30 PM Fr. William Menezes along with the parishioners of Angelore parish arrived at Omzoor. The new Parish Priest was formally welcomed at the entrance of the church and then a procession followed into the church. Fr. Alwyn Dcunha handed over the Stole and the Holy Gospel to the new Parish Priest Fr. William Menezes.

The Profession of faith was done by Rev. Fr. William Menezes in the presence of Rev. Fr. Valerian Dsouza, the Bishop’s representative. The newly appointed Parish priest then undertook an oath of relentless service towards the parish. Fr. Alwyn Dcunha then formally handed over the files to Fr. William Menezes.

Followed by a short introductory programme. Arther Dsouza, vice president of PPC welcomed the new Parish Priest Fr. William Menezes and the parishioners of Angelore parish. Arther Dsouza assured Fr William Menezes, consistent support and prayers from the parishioners of Omzoor. Mrs dafney Lewis, secretary of Parish council gave a brief history of omzoor parish and how holy family Church came into existence. Fr Alwyn Dcunha also extended a hearty welcome to the New Parish Priest Fr William Menezes. Fr Valerian Dsouza shared his views about the parish and extended his best wishes to Fr William Menezes.

Fr William Menezes then shared his experience in the Angelore parish and thanked the parishioners for their unwavering faith, support and love towards him. He assured them of his prayers for the we'll being of the Parish. Elroy Saldanha, coordinator of all church commissions proposed vote of thanks.

A short prayer and hymn was sung to conclude the welcoming ceremony. 

Ms. Tenisha Pinto compered the event. Refreshments were then served.

Inauguaration of Catechism classes for the academic year 2024-25

The Catechism classes for the academic year 2024-25 were inaugurated on Sunday, 2nd June, 2024 during the Mass at 9:15 am.  The Parish Priest, Rev.Fr Alwyn D'cunha, led the ceremony. The inaugural ceremony began with the entrance procession. 
Two children from each class representing all the other children walked in a procession to the altar along with few parents and Catechism teachers. One child held up the banner saying, "Lord, teach us to pray" symbolising the eagerness of all the children to learn from the Catechism classes. The parent representatives then came forward teaching the children to fold their hands and blessing them. Rev. Fr Alwyn gave Bibles to the children in front of the altar, followed by the teachers who distributed the class books and rosary to each of them.  The priest along with the teachers came forward and taught a prayer to all the children in the church.  Followed by the Eucharist celebration.
Under the direction of the parish priest and Sr Theresa Madtha, the catechism coordinator along with the catechism teachers, the ceremony commenced in a meaningful way.
