Women’s Day Celebrated with Devotion and Joy at Holy Family Church, Omzoor on 08/03/2026

The Women’s Day celebration was joyfully organized at Holy Family Church, Omzoor by Sthree Sanghatan Omzoor. The day began with a solemn Holy Mass celebrated by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. William Menezes.
At the beginning of the Mass, the members of Sthree Sanghatan reverently lit a candle before Mother Mary, honouring her as the patron and model of all women. In his sermon, the priest reflected on the story of the Samaritan woman who came to draw water and encountered Jesus, asking Him for the “living water.” He explained the deeper meaning of spiritual thirst and how Christ satisfies the needs of the human heart.
The Holy Mass was offered as a thanksgiving for all the women of the Omzoor parish, appreciating their dedicated service to their families, society, and the Church.
After the Mass, the Women’s Day programme continued at the Holy Family Sabha Bhavan, Omzoor. The programme began with a welcome address by the President of Sthree Sanghatan, Mrs. Vinaya Braggs. A talk on mental well-being and stress management was delivered by Rev. Fr. Victor Dsouza, the resource person. In his talk, he explained that stress is often the root cause of many illnesses and spoke about how it affects people physically, mentally, and socially. He also shared ways to manage stress and maintain a balanced life.
The dignitaries present on the stage included Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest), Rev. Fr. Victor Dsouza (Resident Priest), Sr. Luciana (Superior of St. Charles Borromeo Convent), Mr. Arthur Dsouza (Vice President of the Pastoral Council), Mrs. Daffny Lewis (Secretary of the Pastoral Council), Mr. Elroy Saldanha (Commission Coordinator), Mrs. Vinaya Braggs (President of Sthree Sanghatan), Mrs. Milly Dsouza (Secretary of Sthree Sanghatan), and Mrs. Wilma Vas (Sthree Ayog Secretary).
During the programme, women serving as Gurkars in the parish were honoured by the Parish Priest in recognition of their dedicated service. In his message, Rev. Fr. William Menezes beautifully expressed that sacrifice, love, and courage define a woman. He also highlighted that the good values seen in children often reflect the upbringing and guidance of their mothers.
The members of Sthree Sanghatan added joy to the celebration by presenting dances, songs, games, and a skit for the entertainment of the gathering. The games were conducted by Mrs. Anitha D’Cunha and Mrs. Leena Braggs. The programme was compered by Mrs. Meera D’Silva and Mrs. Janet Vas.
On this occasion, Mrs. Rita Dsouza was specially honoured for her many years of dedicated service to Sthree Sanghatan. The felicitation was presented by Mrs. Daffny Lewis.
The celebration was further graced by the presence of Mr. U. T. Khader, the Honourable Speaker of Karnataka, whose presence made the occasion more memorable.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Shanthi. The meaningful and joyful celebration ended with a sumptuous meal shared by all the participants, bringing the Women’s Day celebration to a warm and happy end.
