Holy Family Church Omzoor Commemorates the Lord’s Supper with Solemnity and Love.

The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, gathered in a spirit of profound reverence to observe Maundy Thursday, marking the commencement of the Paschal Triduum. The evening’s liturgy was a solemn journey into the upper room, where the community commemorated the institution of the Holy Eucharist and the Priesthood. The Mass was presided over by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza (Resident Priest), while Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest) joined as the co-celebrant, leading the faithful in this significant milestone of the liturgical year.

During the homily, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza offered a deep reflection on the mysteries of the Last Supper, explaining how Jesus established the Eucharistic celebration and the sacrament of Holy Orders on this night. He movingly noted the connection between the two days of the Passion, stating that when Jesus broke the bread on Maundy Thursday, He was prefiguring the sacrifice of Himself on the Cross on Good Friday. Fr. Victor called upon the congregation to focus on three vital pillars of Christian life: to actively participate in and celebrate the Holy Mass, to offer special respect and prayerful support to their priests, and to extend their hands in service and their hearts in love to one another, fulfilling Christ’s new commandment of charity.

Following the Word of God, the liturgy moved into a powerful visual demonstration of humility through the ritual of the Mandatum. To recall the poignant moment when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza, knelt to wash the feet of twelve lay people representing the parish community. This act served as a living testament to the spirit of servitude that Christ expects from His followers, bridging the gap between the altar and the everyday lives of the faithful. The ceremony was conducted with great solemnity, deeply touching the hearts of those present.

As the Eucharistic celebration concluded, the atmosphere shifted into one of quiet vigil. A solemn adoration was conducted, during which the Blessed Sacrament was carried in procession to the Altar of Repose. This transition symbolized Jesus’ entry into the Garden of Gethsemane, and the parishioners remained in the church for a period of silent prayer and watchfulness.
