Christ is Risen! Holy Family Church Omzoor Celebrates the Glorious Easter Vigil.
The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Omzoor, gathered in great numbers to celebrate the Easter Vigil, the most significant and holiest night in the Catholic Church. Known as the “Mother of all Vigils,” the liturgy began in darkness, symbolizing the world before the Resurrection, until the new fire was lit and blessed. From this flame, the Paschal Candle was ignited, representing the Light of Christ breaking through the darkness of sin and death. The community then moved into the church for the solemn Easter Proclamation (Exsultet), followed by a series of scriptural readings and psalms that traced the history of salvation.
The Eucharistic celebration was led by the main celebrant, Rev. Fr. Victor D’Souza (Resident Priest), with Rev. Fr. William Menezes (Parish Priest) as the co-celebrant. In his homily, Fr. Victor highlighted the five essential elements of the Easter Vigil that define our faith. He explained the significance of the new fire and light, the joy of the Easter Proclamation, and the importance of the blessing of Holy Water, noting that our journey as Catholics begins with the water of Baptism. He concluded by emphasizing the Holy Eucharist, where the faithful proclaim the central mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again. Fr. Victor remarked that the night’s readings provide undeniable proof of the Resurrection and prayed that this Easter season would be a blessed and fruitful time for all.
A significant highlight of the liturgy was the blessing of the baptismal water. As the water was made holy, the parishioners renewed their baptismal promises, symbolically dying to their old selves and rising to new life in Christ. The joyful atmosphere of the Mass was further enhanced by the spirited singing of the “Alleluia,” which had been silent throughout the season of Lent.
Before the conclusion of the Mass, a special milestone for the parish was marked with the official inauguration of the renewed church website. Developed and updated by the Media Commission, the website was formally launched by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. William Menezes. This digital renewal serves as a new platform for the community to stay connected and informed. The Easter Vigil concluded on a note of immense joy and triumph, as the faithful of Omzoor departed to share the good news of the Risen Lord with the world.
